No let up to ‘Trial by Twitter’

Alastair Stewart, 67, an ITN newscaster, quoted Shakespeare in a Tweet and was duly condemned as racist in a Twitter storm, as a result of which ITN sacked him.

According to Allison Pearson (writing in the Daily Telegraph), Alastair Stewart is a ‘serious stickler’ for professional conduct. “A proud graduate of the Sir Alastair Burnet school, during the general election he chided other broadcast journalists for expressing opinions and failing to maintain their impartiality.”
